In the fourth branch of the Welsh folk tales 'The Mabinogion', Blodeuwedd is a woman created from flowers, made to be a wife to Lleu. When she falls for another man, her creators try to kill her, and when she escapes they turn her into an owl. She is transformed from a person made of flowers and light, to a bird of the night. She is forced to spend the rest of her life in darkness, heartbroken over her lost love.
