PROCESSIONS 2018: Celebrating 100 Years of Women's Suffrage

In March, I was privileged to be asked by Oriel Myrddin Gallery, Carmarthen to work as the lead artist on a community project at Dr M'z youth centre to mark the 100 year centenary of the women’s right to vote, in designing and making a banner, flags, and sashes for a mass participation artwork on June 10th called "PROCESSIONS 2018", produced by Artichoke with National Heritage Lottery support. We came together in workshops to discuss what being a strong woman means and brainstorming ideas through drawings and collage before voting on a final design, The Butterfly Warrior. We shared embroidery skills and stories, and worked together on adorning our butterfly with tattooed embroidered messages.
